The opening line of the book summarizes the story quite well, “I jumped out of bed that morning with one question in my mind- sun or fog”. The author, Corrie Ten Boom, lives in the Netherlands during WW2 and is constantly choosing to look on the sunny side of things no matter what life brings her. Her mother says, “Happiness isn’t something that depends on our surroundings, Corrie. It is something we make inside ourselves.” There is a reoccurring theme of mastering your emotions in the book and choosing a positive perspective. Her families daily religious rituals play into this and give Corrie the strength to do what needs to be done during difficult times and survive when things don’t go according to plan. This book was incredible when read as a child and powerful when read as an adult for the second time. What an incredible story!
